Japan Uncut reviews and compares premium Japanese adult membership sites. Our goal is to help readers understand what they actually receive after joining a site, rather than simply repeating the claims made on its public sales pages.

Whenever practical, our reviews are based on first-hand access to the membership. We browse the members area, examine the content library, stream videos, test downloads when available, check available video resolutions, use search and filtering tools, review update frequency, compare pricing, and evaluate the overall experience against competing Japanese sites we’ve reviewed.

We’ve been reviewing Japanese adult membership sites since 2012. That history gives us a large group of memberships to compare when deciding whether a site’s library, video quality, pricing, updates, or other features genuinely stand out.

This page explains how we test sites, how our 100-point rating system works, and how we keep scores and reviews current as memberships change.

How We Review Japanese Adult Sites

A review starts with understanding what a paying member actually receives.

Depending on the site and the features it offers, our testing can include:

• Accessing and browsing the members area
• Checking the size and organization of the video library
• Streaming videos at different available resolutions
• Testing downloads when downloads are included
• Comparing video resolutions and file formats
• Checking censored and uncensored content availability
• Using search, categories, filters, and performer pages
• Checking how frequently new content is published
• Evaluating English-language navigation and international usability
• Checking membership prices and billing options
• Reviewing included features and additional membership benefits
• Comparing the site with competing Japanese memberships we’ve reviewed

Not every test applies to every website. For example, we cannot evaluate a download system on a streaming-only membership. Our written reviews explain the features that are actually available and relevant to that particular site.

Our 100-Point Rating System

Japan Uncut currently rates premium Japanese adult membership sites using eight categories worth a combined 100 points.

The numerical score gives us a consistent framework for comparing memberships, but it doesn’t replace the written review. Two sites can receive similar scores while offering very different types of content or being better suited to different users.

Rating Criteria

The following criteria are primarily used when evaluating the Japanese porn subscription websites reviewed on Japan Uncut.

Overall Impression – 20 Points

Overall Impression reflects the reviewer’s first-hand assessment of the complete membership experience.

We consider how the site feels after logging in and using it as a member, including the quality of the members area, content presentation, navigation, features, organization, membership benefits, and how the overall experience compares with competing Japanese sites.

This category intentionally allows room for editorial judgment. However, that judgment is based on actually using the membership and comparing it with other sites we’ve reviewed rather than simply looking at the public sales page.

Video Quality – 15 Points

Video Quality evaluates the quality available to members for both streaming and downloading where those options are provided.

We look at factors such as available resolutions, image quality, consistency across the library, streaming options, and download formats.

A site with a large amount of modern HD and 4K content will generally perform better than one where much of the library remains available only at older or lower resolutions.

We also consider the age of the library. A site with a large historical archive isn’t automatically penalized simply because older scenes were originally produced at lower resolutions, but the quality available across the membership still affects the final score.

Content Quantity – 15 Points

Content Quantity measures how much relevant content a paying member receives.

We don’t rely only on a large number displayed on a sales page. Where practical, we examine the members area to understand how substantial the accessible library actually is and compare it with similar Japanese memberships.

We also distinguish between a genuinely useful library and headline numbers that may include large amounts of older, duplicated, unrelated, or less relevant material.

Uncensored Content – 10 Points

Japanese adult content is unusual because censorship is an important difference between membership sites. Some platforms specialize in uncensored Japanese content, while others primarily offer traditionally censored JAV.

This category evaluates the availability and selection of uncensored Japanese videos and images within the membership.

A higher score means the site provides a stronger selection of uncensored content.

This score should not be interpreted as saying uncensored content is objectively better than censored JAV. Some readers specifically prefer traditional censored Japanese productions. We include this category because access to uncensored material is an important differentiating feature between Japanese adult memberships.

Site Usability – 10 Points

Site Usability measures how easy the membership is to use once you’ve logged in.

Depending on the site, we examine:

• Navigation and menu structure
• Search functionality
• Categories and filters
• Performer pages
• Page loading and responsiveness
• Streaming and player controls
• Download organization
• Mobile and desktop usability
• English-language navigation where available
• Useful membership features

This is particularly relevant for Japanese sites because some memberships were originally designed primarily for domestic users and can be more difficult for international customers to navigate.

Exclusivity – 10 Points

Exclusivity evaluates how much of the membership’s content is unique to that site or network.

Some adult networks license or aggregate videos from multiple studios, which means the same content may be available through several memberships. Other sites primarily offer productions that cannot easily be found elsewhere.

A site with a high proportion of genuinely exclusive content can receive a higher score here, while memberships relying heavily on widely available licensed content will generally score lower.

Licensed content isn’t necessarily a negative. A large network can still offer excellent value by combining content from many studios in one membership. This category simply measures exclusivity rather than overall quality.

Updates – 10 Points

Updates measures how actively the membership continues to publish new content.

We look at how frequently new scenes are added and whether the update schedule appears consistent.

This matters because a large library can become much less attractive if the membership has effectively stopped growing. Conversely, a smaller site with frequent high-quality updates may provide better long-term value for a subscriber.

Update scores can change when we revisit a membership if its publishing schedule significantly improves or declines.

Value – 10 Points

Value considers what you actually receive for the current membership price.

Rather than judging price in isolation, we compare the cost with factors such as:

• Library size
• Content quality
• Video resolution
• Update frequency
• Exclusivity
• Streaming and download access
• Included features
• Membership restrictions
• Competing sites available at similar prices

A cheap membership doesn’t automatically receive a high Value score, and an expensive membership doesn’t automatically receive a low one. The question is whether the complete membership justifies what the user is being asked to pay.

Where Japan Uncut has access to a genuine discounted membership price available to our readers, we may take that currently available price into consideration when evaluating value.

How We Determine the Final Score

The points awarded across the eight categories are added together to produce a maximum score of 100 points.

For example:

The score makes it easier to compare sites, but our recommendation also considers what type of user a membership is best suited for.

For example, the highest-scoring general Japanese membership may not necessarily be our first recommendation for someone specifically looking for uncensored content, a particular studio, or another specialist category.

Older Reviews & Previous Scoring

Japan Uncut has been publishing reviews for many years, and our review methodology has developed as the site and Japanese adult industry have evolved.

Some older reviews may have originally been evaluated using an earlier version of our scoring system or may not yet contain the same level of detailed category scoring and hands-on testing information found in our newer and recently updated reviews.

As we revisit older reviews, we are gradually updating them to reflect our current testing process and 100-point rating framework.

Because memberships themselves also change over time, a current score may differ from an older rating if a site’s content, pricing, video quality, usability, updates, or overall value has improved or declined.

How We Keep Ratings Current

Publishing a score doesn’t mean that rating is permanent.

Japanese adult sites change over time. Libraries grow, prices change, new video resolutions become available, update schedules change, websites are redesigned, and features can be added or removed.

When we revisit an existing review, we may check:

• Current membership prices and billing options
• Content library size
• Recent updates
• Current video quality
• Streaming and download options
• Site navigation and functionality
• New or removed features
• Changes in ownership or network access

If those changes materially affect our assessment, we can update the written review, individual category scores, overall rating, or recommendation.
