AV9898.com is a large Japanese DVD download site that specializes in uncensored (no pixilation) Japanese AV. I’m not exactly sure what the “9898” stands for, nor does it really matter. There’s only one thing that’s on my mind, and that is whether or not this site is worth the $19.95 monthly membership.
My feelings are mixed towards this site. On the one hand, the content is great — lots of exclusive videos here. But their promise of “best and biggest Japanese adult movies site” is simply not true. I just don’t see how they can be the “best” if they only have 3rd and 4th rate actresses. You won’t find the stunningly beautiful Maria Ozawa nor the big tits of Ai Kurosawa anywhere on AV9898.
It’s not all bad though. Unlike most J-porn networks, you won’t find any censored videos with mosaic on AV9898. It’s not a mega-site, but at only $19.95/month, the 2081 video sets are enough to satisfy most J-porn lovers. My main complaint is the actual site design.
The navigation is confusing to say the least. Though the site is in fact located in America (despite claiming to be a Japanese site), there is too much Japanese text on the English site version. Other than the actual DVD cover graphics, I don’t see why there should be any Japanese text at all. The navigation is intimidating, at least at first. Though you will get the hang of it quickly. In terms of the content, this is a download site only. Movie size range from about 500Mb to 2Gb. Depending on your internet connection, download speeds can take longer than you’d expect. And one scene can be split up into 3-5 files which can be quite annoying. I even tried to download one file where the actual thumbnail wasn’t even the correct image. How confusing is that?
Despite having my reasons to not like this site, the movies are hardcore all the way. The uncensored videos is always a bonus for Japanese DVDs, and you’ll find some great micro-niches as well like Gusher, Cum Inside, Each Cum, and Pissing, as well as your more typical Hardcore niches like Facial, Gang Bang, and SM. Playback quality is superior to most sites at 800×450, 3155 kbps. And the production value is top notch.
Overall, AV9898 is a great site that could be so much better. If you don’t plan on downloading movies every day, then AV9898 will do just fine. But if you’re an avid J-porn viewer, stick to JAV Model instead.
